Garden Treasures

There's a lot one can find in one's back yard. This is a little post compiling some of the things I found and painted in my own back yard.

This past weekend I spotted something shiny by the strawberry bushes. Upon inspection I saw that it was a beautiful dead humming bird. At first, I couldn't believe it. I thought it was a fake that someone planted there- because it was so perfect. I spend the day drawing and sketching it:

On a different day, I found this little snail, some orange flowers that popped up by our garage, and set up a mini still life. My still life, though, did not want to stay still, and Snailsworth decided to climb up the jar and start eating the flowers:

I've been looking a lot at Albrecht Dürer, especially his watercolors, and was inspired to try some paintings on toned paper. We call this our "garbage mint", because despite trying to transplant it and remove it, the mint loves growing by the garbage cans:

 Below is Dürer's "A Great Piece of Turf", my inspiration. I call mine "the so-so piece of turf".

 And, lastly a bit of news: I recently had a show at OSLP community room. I painted 9 garlics, and compiled them into a projection that was playing in the gallery along with the paintings. Oui!

This is maybe related, since I painted all 9 garlics while sitting in my back yard.
